When it comes to maintaining appliances, a little knowledge can go a long way. Especially with something as essential as a hand dryer, knowing how to replace a motor not only saves you money, but also ensures that your dryer continues to work optimally. In this blog post, we’ll provide a step-by-step guide on replacing the motor of a ThinAir dryer, so you can keep your appliance in the best possible condition.

Step 1. Remove the Cover

To begin replacing the motor, remove the cover by removing one tamper-proof bolt on the bottom of the dryer and gently lift upwards. Be sure to confirm there is no voltage at the terminal block before proceeding.

Step 2. Remove the HEPA Pre-Filter

Next, remove the HEPA pre-filter by sliding it towards you and then remove the two screws on either side of the HEPA filter. Lift the filter away and set it aside.

Step 3. Remove the Blower Housing Front

Locate and remove six screws that hold the blower housing front. Ensure that the parts do not fall forward at this point.

Step 4. Disconnect the Wires and Replace the Motor

Disconnect the wires from the motor by removing the black wire from the load side of the terminal block, followed by the white wire. Grasp the motor along with the bottom muffler housing output and remove the old motor. Replace the motor followed by replacing the top and bottom mufflers.

Step 5. Reconnect the Wires and Replace the HEPA Filter

Route the white and black wires from the motor through the notch in the blower housing front and press them into place to the notch in the blower housing back. Secure them with the six screws. Reconnect the white wire from the new motor to the white connector and the black wire to the load side of the terminal block. Return the HEPA filter to the slot above the motor. Ensure that the two legs of the HEPA filter are properly in place so that the gasket of the HEPA is sealed to the motor. Secure the HEPA filter in place with the two screws previously removed. Slide the pre-filter back into place.

Replacing a motor on a ThinAir dryer is a relatively simple process that can be done with a few basic tools. By following the steps outlined in this blog post, you can replace your motor and have your dryer running like new again. Remember to always disconnect power to the unit and confirm there is no voltage at the terminal block before starting. With a little bit of patience and care, you can easily solve any issues with your thin air dryer while saving yourself time and money.
