The CEU course is featured in the USGBC’s Virtual Tour launching at the show and provides an inside look at the newest technologies in high efficiency products for sustainable restroom design

November 17, 2010 – East Longmeadow, Mass. – Excel Dryer, manufacturer of the XLERATOR® high-speed, energy-efficient hand dryer and Sloan Valve, a manufacturer of water-efficient solutions for the plumbing industry have teamed up to develop a new continuing education course, ‘Next Generation Green Restroom Design’. The course was developed in conjunction with the U.S. Green Building Council and is a featured education unit in their new virtual tour program. The virtual tour is an interactive showcase of the green products and sustainable design principles featured throughout the USGBC’s LEED Platinum certified headquarters in Washington, D.C. The Next Generation Green Restroom Design CEU course emphasizes how high-efficiency hand dryers and plumbing fixtures can help reduce maintenance and cost while delivering the lowest environmental impact. Scheduled to launch at Greenbuild 2010, it can be found online at https://www.exceldryer.com/education.php

“The virtual tour and CEU course tells a story about the benefits of sustainable design and creates an infrastructure of green education,” said Ashley Katz, communications manager, USGBC. Tour visitors can zoom in for high-resolution views of the USGBC headquarters and click on specific areas that link to related continuing education courses.

“By collaborating with the USGBC, and showcasing the best practices in sustainable restroom design, we hope to inspire architects, specifiers and building professionals to take an important step toward saving usable resources in the restroom,” said William Gagnon, vice president of marketing and key accounts, Excel Dryer.

For nearly a decade XLERATOR® hand dryers have been a featured green product in the USGBC restrooms. Unlike conventional hand dryers, XLERATOR® completely dries hands 3 times faster (in 10 seconds) and uses 80% less energy than conventional hand dryers. XLERATOR® also delivers a 95% cost savings when compared to paper towels, eliminates maintenance and waste, while creating a more hygienic restroom environment. A peer reviewed (per ISO 14040 standards) Life Cycle Assessment of XLERATOR® confirmed it reduces the carbon footprint of hand drying by 50-70% when compared to both traditional hand dryers and even 100% recycled paper towels.

“In order to meet rigorous LEED v3 guidelines, all products were researched to verify they represented the lowest environmental impact without sacrificing performance,” said Brendan Owens, vice president, LEED Technical Development, USGBC. “This philosophy is echoed throughout our facility, including our restrooms that utilize high-efficiency plumbing fixtures and high-speed, energy-efficient hand dryers.”
